RULES FOR THE INTERNATIONAL GENEALOGY ASSOCIATION
SYSTEM OPERATOR CONFERENCE ON IGA_Net<tm>
=============================================
(Echo-TAG : IGA_SYSOP)
=================
First Edition July 1, 1993
---------------------------
Revised April 28, 1995
IGA_SYSOP RULES
===============
Messages in this conference shall be subject to any rules and
regulations which may, from time to time, be officially recognized by
IGA_Net<tm> The ultimate interpreter of IGA_Net<tm> Rules is the IGA_Net
Administrator (440:1/1); or such lower level Coordinator as he shall,
from time to time, specify.
(PLEASE NOTE: Any message which is lawful, friendly, non-commercial and
related to genealogy, is not likely to fall afoul of any IGA_Net rule.
NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MESSAGES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is an international conference in the sense that it is open to
all IGA_Net<tm> System Operators (SysOps), anywhere in the world.
However, the subject matter of messages within the IGA_SYSOP echo
shall, at all times relate to the system operation of genealogical
bulletin board systems, private family research nodes, and general
administrative matters of IGA_Net<tm>.
Note that other echo exist for the discussion of specific genealogy
subject matter, file distribution messages, and other IGA_Net<tm> matters
which should not be discussed on the IGA_SYSOP echo. Not doing so
will limit the amount of discussion about matters your host never
areafixed the network to receive.
MAKING CONTACT WITH OTHERS RUNNING GENEALOGICAL OPERATIONS
==========================================================
This echo will primarily be viewed by others who offer the
same types of genealogical resources that you do. Enter a
message on IGA_SYSOP. The message should may be addressed to
ALL or a specific SysOp, with a subject referencing the
discussion you will transmit. The contents of the message
should be *concise* while presenting just enough information
to specifically identify what you wish to pass along to others.
COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING
======================
There is to be NO commercial advertising in this conference. This
shall not be construed to exclude fair comment by system operators
of any resource which might be of assistance to other SysOps.
TAGLINES
~~~~~~~~
The use of taglines is strongly dissuaded. In the event the originator
of a message finds he/she has an urgent need to utilize a tagline, the
tagline will only be a short line detailing research surnames:
Researching: JONES, GREEN, and CALLAWAY
Cutesy taglines add nothing to the value of genealogical research
being conducted by the message originator.... in fact, they detract
greatly from the serious purpose of the message content.
Also, taglines add to the length of messages and therefore add to the
cost of transferring traffic via continental and intercontinental
telephone. Again, you are requested to empathize with those who are
paying the long-distance charges and leave taglines off your messages.
RULES ABOUT RULES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only forum for adjudicating disputes about the Conference Rules
shall be the IGA_SYSOP echo. Final resolution of disputes rests with
the Zone Coordinator of IGA_Net<tm>.
************************************************************
Considering that characters with the high-ASCII bit set
(above 7A hexadecimal (127 decimal)) and characters of value
less than 20 hexadecimal (32 decimal) cause numerous problems
with software now in use, such characters are not allowed
in messages in this echo.
