  11. IGA_SYSOP RULES
  12. ===============
  13. Messages in this conference shall be subject to any rules and 
  14. regulations which may, from time to time, be officially recognized by 
  15. IGA_Net<tm> The ultimate interpreter of IGA_Net<tm> Rules is the IGA_Net
  16. Administrator (440:1/1); or such lower level Coordinator as he shall,
  17. from time to time, specify.

  19. (PLEASE NOTE: Any message which is lawful, friendly, non-commercial and 
  20. related to genealogy, is not likely to fall afoul of any IGA_Net rule.
  21.  
  22. NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MESSAGES
  23. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  24. This is an international conference in the sense that it is open to 
  25. all IGA_Net<tm> System Operators (SysOps), anywhere in the world.
  26. However, the subject matter of messages within the IGA_SYSOP echo
  27. shall, at all times relate to the system operation of genealogical
  28. bulletin board systems, private family research nodes, and general
  29. administrative matters of IGA_Net<tm>.

  31. Note that other echo exist for the discussion of specific genealogy
  32. subject matter, file distribution messages, and other IGA_Net<tm> matters
  33. which should not be discussed on the IGA_SYSOP echo.  Not doing so
  34. will limit the amount of discussion about matters your host never
  35. areafixed the network to receive.

  37. MAKING CONTACT WITH OTHERS RUNNING GENEALOGICAL OPERATIONS
  38. ==========================================================
  39. This echo will primarily be viewed by others who offer the
  40. same types of genealogical resources that you do.  Enter a
  41. message on IGA_SYSOP. The message should may be addressed to
  42. ALL or a specific SysOp, with a subject referencing the
  43. discussion you will transmit.  The contents of the message
  44. should be *concise* while presenting just enough information
  45. to specifically identify what you wish to pass along to others.
  46.  
  47. COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING
  48. ======================
  49. There is to be NO commercial advertising in this conference.  This 
  50. shall not be construed to exclude fair comment by system operators
  51. of any resource which might be of assistance to other SysOps.

  53. TAGLINES
  54. ~~~~~~~~
  55. The use of taglines is strongly dissuaded. In the event the originator
  56. of a message finds he/she has an urgent need to utilize a tagline, the
  57. tagline will only be a short line detailing research surnames:

  59.               Researching: JONES, GREEN, and CALLAWAY
  60.  
  61. Cutesy taglines add nothing to the value of genealogical research
  62. being conducted by the message originator.... in fact, they detract
  63. greatly from the serious purpose of the message content.
  64.  
  65. Also, taglines add to the length of messages and therefore add to the
  66. cost of transferring traffic via continental and intercontinental
  67. telephone. Again, you are requested to empathize with those who are
  68. paying the long-distance charges and leave taglines off your messages.

  70. RULES ABOUT RULES

  72. The only forum for adjudicating disputes about the Conference Rules
  73. shall be the IGA_SYSOP echo. Final resolution of disputes rests with
  74. the Zone Coordinator of IGA_Net<tm>.

  77. Considering that characters with the high-ASCII bit set
  78. (above 7A hexadecimal (127 decimal)) and characters of value
  79. less than 20 hexadecimal (32 decimal) cause numerous problems
  80. with software now in use, such characters are not allowed
  81. in messages in this echo.
